Targeted treatment for lower back pain, sciatica, hip tightness and muscle spasm. Private practice at Beverley Road, New Malden KT3 4AW. Back pain is one of the most common and most treatable problems seen in soft tissue therapy — 64 five-star reviews.
Most back pain is not a back problem. It is driven by tight hip flexors, restricted thoracic mobility, weak glutes or piriformis dysfunction — all of which place excess load on the lumbar spine and surrounding muscles. This is why rest, painkillers and ice rarely produce lasting results: the contributing structures are never addressed.
Sports massage targets these structures directly. Nick works from his private practice at Beverley Road, New Malden (KT3 4AW), assessing how you move and what is actually driving the problem before any treatment begins. For deep-seated or long-standing back tension, deep tissue massage or remedial massage may be the more appropriate approach — Nick can advise after the initial assessment.
Effective for desk workers, drivers, manual workers and active people — whether the pain came on suddenly or has been building for years. For South West London commuters — from Kingston, Wimbledon and Worcester Park — combining a daily train journey with a full day at a desk, the lumbar load is continuous and compounding. It responds well to targeted treatment once the underlying drivers are properly identified.

Back pain presents in many ways. These are the most common patterns seen in the clinic.
Lumbar stiffness or sharp pain, usually caused by tight hip flexors and inhibited glutes placing excess strain on the lower back. Responds well to targeted assessment and treatment.
Pain, numbness or tingling radiating into the leg. Often caused by piriformis tightness or nerve tension in the surrounding tissue — highly responsive to soft tissue release. See the dedicated sciatica treatment page for the full clinical approach.
Deep, one-sided ache in the lower back or buttock, associated with pelvic imbalance and hip restriction. Treated effectively with targeted soft tissue work.
Prolonged sitting shortens hip flexors and switches off glutes, overloading the lower back. The most common cause of back pain in office workers and drivers.
Acute or chronic spasm in the erector spinae or quadratus lumborum — painful and limiting. Often a sign of underlying dysfunction in the surrounding muscle groups.
Repetitive lifting, twisting and physical work accumulates strain over time. Regular treatment reduces load on the lower back and prevents escalation to injury.

No two people's back pain is the same. Before any treatment begins, Nick asks about your symptoms, history and lifestyle to understand what is driving the problem — then treats the actual cause, not just where it hurts. The practice is at Beverley Road, New Malden KT3 4AW, with sessions available Monday to Friday 10am–7pm and Saturday 10am–3pm.
Treatment typically includes assessment and targeted work through the lumbar spine, gluteal muscles, hip flexors and thoracic spine. If the problem is complex or involves nerve symptoms, Nick will advise whether remedial massage would be more appropriate. You will leave with specific stretches and advice tailored to your situation.
