Deep tissue massage New Malden

What Is Deep Tissue?

Going deeper than
surface treatment.

Deep tissue massage is one of the most effective treatments available for chronic muscle tension, persistent pain and restricted movement โ€” and it goes significantly further than a standard relaxation massage.

Where a Swedish massage works primarily on the surface layers of muscle, deep tissue massage targets the deeper structures โ€” the muscle bellies, connective tissue and fascia that sit beneath. These are the layers where long-term tension accumulates, where old injuries leave their mark, and where the root causes of chronic pain are usually found.

Nick is certified in Brandon Raynor Deep Tissue Massage and has been delivering hands-on deep tissue treatment for over 13 years across London and South West London.

What Deep Tissue Treats

Conditions that respond
to deep tissue massage.

๐Ÿ”™

Chronic Back & Neck Pain

Long-standing back, neck and shoulder pain that hasn't responded to other treatment. Deep tissue work gets to the structures that surface treatments can't reach.

๐Ÿ”’

Restricted Movement

Persistent muscle tightness and restricted range of motion โ€” often caused by scar tissue, fascial adhesions or long-term postural habits.

๐Ÿง

Tension Headaches

Headaches related to neck and upper back tightness. Deep tissue work on the cervical muscles and upper traps can provide significant relief.

๐Ÿง

Postural Problems

Postural issues caused by long-term muscle imbalance โ€” rounded shoulders, anterior pelvic tilt, forward head posture โ€” that create chronic discomfort.

๐Ÿฉน

Old Injury Recovery

Scar tissue from old injuries that has affected movement and comfort over time. Deep tissue work breaks down adhesions and restores tissue quality.

๐Ÿ’ผ

Work-Related Tension

Deep-seated tension from physically or mentally demanding work โ€” the kind that doesn't go away with a hot shower or a night's sleep.

What to Expect

Purposeful, not painful.

A session always starts with a proper assessment โ€” understanding what's going on, where you feel it and what your daily life demands of your body. Treatment is then applied to the specific areas that need it, working through the layers of muscle systematically to release tension at depth.

Deep tissue work can feel intense in areas of significant tension, but pressure is always adjusted to your comfort level. It should feel purposeful โ€” not unbearable. Any post-treatment soreness typically fades within 24 to 48 hours, and most clients notice a meaningful difference within that window.

  • Full assessment before every session
  • Pressure adjusted to your comfort throughout
  • Normal to feel some soreness for 24โ€“48 hours after
  • Most clients notice significant improvement within a day

Deep Tissue vs Sports Massage

What's the difference?

Sports massage and deep tissue massage overlap significantly in technique. The main distinction is focus: sports massage is structured around the demands of physical activity and athletic performance, while deep tissue massage is centred on releasing chronic tension and restoring function โ€” regardless of whether you're sporty.

In practice, most sessions at Supreme Sports Therapy draw on both approaches based on what your body actually needs. You don't need to be an athlete to benefit from deep tissue work โ€” far from it. The majority of clients who request deep tissue treatment are desk workers, drivers and people with long-standing pain that hasn't improved with rest.

Sessions are 60 or 90 minutes. For deep-seated chronic tension, the 90-minute session is recommended โ€” it allows thorough work without rushing.
